I have a 99 eclipse gs and when I try to shift into second gear it grinds. Every other gear works fine and shifts smooth except that one. I double clutch but it still persists..It does it smaller amount if I let the car melt up but will still does it...when I bought the car I was told in the region of the problem and the guy told me that he thought it was just the clutch and figure whoever bought it from him would be putting in some kind of race one anyways. Now, would this be true? that it is the clutch? or could it be something else? tranny fluid? synchros? etc? any insight would help, thanks!
added info: in order to switch to second gear i hold to clutch, bring the shifter to neutral, let sour the clutch, wait for the rpm's to drop back to the 2, after clutch again a gently pull it into second gear. works most of the time but sometimes will still grind. is this the best instrument to double clutch? or?
The synchro is dead. The previous owner drove it like an idiot, and his constant high-RPM shifts cause the synchro to wear out prematurely.
Answers: the synchros broke (the synchro is a friction that uses friction to match rpms of the gear and collar for a smooth shift they go bleak when the friction wears off and the grinding is the gear trying to grip but grinding because of unmatched rpms) you need a new one which will cost abundantly because the transmission shop will have to strip your nouns

sounds approaching you need the transmission rebuild, figure around 2500-3000 for that one parts and labor

Normally if your clutch is giving you problems you will have other problems like slippage or if your pressure plate is doomed to failure your clutch pedal tends to be hard.Sounds approaching your gearbox is bad maybe a worn 2nd gear.Make sure your gearbox is topped up properly, if it is you might enjoy to look for a box. You can also check your clutch master cyl. or cable whichever you car is equipped with.sounds approaching you need the transmission rebuild, figure around 2500-3000 for that one parts and labor
