My car (Vauxhall Corsa, 1995) has purely failed it's MOT. I'm told it needs investigational brake hoses and that there is a corroded part underneath the bonnet which desires clearing and cleaning. It will cost lb300 for both jobs.
I've not got much money as I've not long finished uni. Is it better to replace or mend? the front brake hoses are delphi part number lh0105 and th rear are lh2813 you will also involve to replace the copper washers these will only cost about fifteen pounds respectively and are fairly easy to replace which will thieve your cost down slightly
Mend, where do you think you will obtain a car that will pass another MOT for smaller amount than lb600. Apart form that you should be able to replace brake hoses as it is just a concern of removing the old and having spanking new made up to length, if it is the flexis then it is even easier as they can be reached from the reins arches usually. You do not say however whether the rust will need a replacement panel or is of late to be cleaned and painted.
if it be me,i would replace it
the car isn't worth lb300. hve you got the money to buy another car? sounds silly ask the garage if it worth the work, like mad will say yes whatever state it is within, but some will say yes if they think it is going to closing you a while longer.
You are at uni, or just finished do you know someone who will do it for you? lb3oo is a lot of money, step to these sites to see what prices they are asking for the parts; autovaux.com or carpartsdirect.com. or eurocarparts.com.
A lot of this money is labour charges unless you can be a bit more specific on the corroded item, i cannot help any further sorry.
As for scrap it like i say what are you going to do near out a car?
if its failed ur MOT thats not biddable. the cars 13 years old, lease a new one, should run you a righteous 3 years before repairs and by the time your lease will be over. only a monthly to money

Honestly and I hate to say this but they are both expensive alternatives but if you replace your sports car at least you wont have problems next to it, if you keep it you will have more and more expensive problems next to it.

Answers: I would filch the car to HI-Q or Kwick Fit and get them to redeploy the hoses. There are from memory only four hoses and they job should cost smaller amount than lb100. As far as the rust under the bonnet is concerned, I think they are have you on. As far as an MOT is concerned there are two types of rust that the tester will be concerned with. First structural rust that if un-treated would compromise the integrity of the vehicle. Second rust so bad that if a person be to walk by the car and rub against the rust they would injure them selves.
Ja.
