I own a 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS, and I'm going to guess that everyone will say replace the belt, BUT it's strange because the loud annoying squeaking noise usually solely starts up when I'm at a stop light or the car starts to slow down. As soon as I hit the gas and pocket off, the noise stops. I newly want to make sure that it's nothing else. Any thoughts besides it a short time ago being a bad belt or tensioner? Thanks.
It's best to adjust the power steering pump closer to the motor and readjusting the tension pulley to take up the slack. There be problems with the tension pulleys not tracking right and I believe at hand is a modified one available.
The alternator belt could also be the problem, spray the belts one at a time to isolate the problem. Try turning the steering wheel when the noise happen and see if the noise changes.
Answers: I suppose that's exactly what it is.
