I have merely replaced the timing belts on my 94 Civic Si and my 00 Elantra GLS. Both were done at different shops, but i get the same hounding to replace the marine pump when doing the belt. My Elantra has 66k and my Civic 85k and i know how crucial the timing belt is-especially with a distrustful clearance engine like the VTEC. previously, i've never be told to replace the waterpump with the timing belt til very soon. is this just a ruse to extort more money out of me, or is near some validity within what the guy behind the counter is wise saying??
Answers: Rubbish, I've been a motor mechanic for roughly 10-11 years now, and own never nor heard of anyone advise this. The problem is if your water pump seize up it will strip the teeth on the belt, if the garage is worth it's salt it will check the pump up to that time the new belt is fitted simply by spinning it, to clear sure the bearings are OK.
my Renault Megan is indistinguishable i believe it has to be done next to the belts
