Hello, I'm learning to drive stick and have a few question for the pros:
1)When going from a complete stop into first gear, what is the best technique?
2) I've heard that "slipping the clutch" allows for smoother acceleration when switching gears- but it wears out the clutch faster? With this within mind, is it better to release the clutch faster (to avoid rubbing/friction between flywheel and clutch plate) but have a less smooth transition between gears (a bit of a "forward lurch")? No one can really answer that question everyone drives different.I know people that enjoy been driving standards for 10 years and still slip the clutch.You just entail to find your own tecnique..Less slippage is better.

all instruction book cars[stick shift] when changing gears slip the clutch..its in in that design,they wont wear out so dont worry about that module of it..start car,put foot right down to the floor on the clutch,slip it in to gear and slowly bump up your foot...the engine sound will drop slightly when youve hit the''biting point''...this is when the car will start to move.once its going fully relise your foot and afterwards your ready for second...thats it..best bet is get parked up where on earth you cant do much damage and just play near the clutch/biting point...hope this helpsSlip the clutch little as possible you will get the swing of it quick enough not strong to be smooth and easy on the clutch both.
