I took my contour in 3 days ago to have a foreign water pump, a coolant reservoir, and a thermostat housing cover put on. It still isn't done today. On top of that, I did not get a tally of what they were doing, and they tried to add services I did not authorize which totaled a whopping $208! (I did not reimburse that, since I spoke to the manager before they did it.)
Should I dispatch a letter of complaint or would that be silly?
In my country (Canada) you don't have to Pay for anything explicitly not authorized. They always try to add services but you still enjoy to authorize it. You can always say no to the extra service. It looks similar to you got the work done and you didn't?
Normally, you agree what work is to be done near the service writer when you drop the car off. Then after the shop starts your position, if they discover other needed repairs and parts are needed and they cost more than say 10% of the quoted cost, they call you and acquire verbal authorization to proceed with the repairs for the added dollar amount and extra transfer time if required. Some state laws are written along those lines. you have every right to complain . you just asked for three simple things, all having to do near the cooling/heating system on your car.And the shop SHOULD have call you if there was going to be a inevitability for ANY other services done to your vehicle .you have that right to decide, it is not the business's right to fashion that deceison for you . except unless there is a possilility that the vehicle could maifunction and put you in a energy threatening situation. eg. faulty brakes. the business could be sued if there be a problem and they didn't address it with the owner and they let the owner drive the vehicle bad the lot. towner could turn around and sue that business. you should get what you ask for bottom line. any piece else that doesn't pose a danger can be addressed at a next date . i can see the spare tire , but they could have and they should have asked you nearly it first.make sure the next shop you whip the vehicle to is a current member of the BBB
and /or AAA.
Still you have be taken advantage of and you have every right to complain. Honestly I don't know how these clowns sleep at hours of darkness , making it hard for the honest ones to get by. but don't you verbs we do and we will...
This is one of those situations where I just know, dealing near them everyday, that we are not getting the full story here.

Answers: What you described and has be done to your car is a service and not a repair. Apparently you took the car for a dampen pump and a expansion tank with a thermostat. Depending of miles and years, the cooling system have to be flushed, Tranny flushed and new oil, Spare Tire? Looks similar to a part of an inspection to me, if was wore out? Apparently you drove the heck of it.
What did you sign? A repair for a pump, decanter and thermostat? Or a maintenance / schedule / inspection?
Read warily hon, that could be.
Beside, now you have a vehicle with the proper maintenance done.
