we bought my daughter a 2003 grandam from a honest guys, he had the car surrounded by storage for a year...it' is almost like new...it's preserve cutting out and dying on her, it runs fine for a short drive but will die after a while and wont start back up. fuel flash? fuel filter? what's going on with this car? my husband is deployed and can't give a hand me but thru emails :) and it's in our driveway now...i am going to appropriate it to a local shop but don't want to be charged out the butt for something simple. give me some idea of what to check for up to that time i spend alot of money on repairs that it may or may not need. it only have 64,000 miles on it, had a oil amendment...check the oil it's ok...what next? could it be electical since the electric window have decided not to work too. TIA for any backing.
amendment fuel and air filters drain fuel cistern and flush lines with methyl hydrate, never should have driven on infirm fuel! wouldn't hurt to change plugs. this all should be done anyway beside car stored that long. all that said the problem most credible is electrical and the g/a in the early 90's be notorious for it. changing a graphite card is adjectives thats neccasary, and should run u abt $65.00 cdn. all the work on fuel syst included abt a yard and a partly total
Props to hubby (I LOVE OUR TROOPS) I would first check the fuel pressure and see what it is switch on engine off and key on engine stale. IF ITS A 2.3 ID BET THE COIL COVER IS SHORTED ABOUT 70 BUCKS PARTS, IF ITS 3.1 V6 LIKELY A CRANK SENSOR 29.00 PART. LABOR WILL DEPEND ON YOUR AREA
Try the fuel filter first. If it is clogged nothing else will situation.
Sound close to an alternator to me, if it runs good when it's charged up, or after it sits, then dies after a few miles, especially if the rest of the electrical dies after driving.
It is probably the alternator. but also check the fuel filter, fuel injectors/carburator, and fuel splash. Also if you have done the fuel cleaner thing mind your Ps and Qs because certain brands will cause the grease rings to swell up and eventually leak.
fuel lines/fuel pump/fuel filter all could be possible, its a problem the garage will have to diagnois. But from the sounds of it, it could be as simple as the fuel filter and as complicated at the the fuel pump(which is inside the fuel tank) or the lines between the cistern and the engine, wish you luck,
Symptoms of a bad catalytic converter

-Engine runs for a while hotter than normal at constant cruising speeds
-Exhaust leaks close header that won't seal in spite of tentative gaskets
-Bucking or hesitation while accelerating
-Cat's exterior surface temp cooler hard by outlet
-Very poor accelleration
-actually bogs down more the harder you push the gas
-high converter temp. to a point that they will glow red
-Ever experienced constipation?
Start off and at first, not too unpromising, but something isn't right. The longer you go without nouns the worse your performance. Things just don't be in motion right, things smell, got no get-up-and-go left.
It is kinda close to that when a car's cat melts down. When yo first start, it MAY seem kinda o.k. but you can't really put your finger on the problem. But the longer you drive it, and the space heater it gets, the less prepared it seems to go anywhere, especially very fast or beside much of a load.
-when u hit the accelerator the car usally will shut itself rotten

Answers: sat for a year? did yuo put fresh gas in it as far as (How full be the tank when you got it and how frequent times have you put gas in it?)
I would suggest a fuel filter and attain a can of "SeaFoam" from your local autoparts store, put it in the gas tank. That will relieve dry out the tank, clean the injectors and revive older gas.
I am sure its a fuel problem though. Be sure to explain what I just asked to the mechanic as the mor info you can give them, the smaller number they have probe around and the cheaper the diagnositcs are.

the window have nothing to do beside the stalling concern. that may just be a fuse. the stall should be checked by a pro, preferably a pontiac dealer. it could be a module, maf sensor, coolant temp sensor or a prom (computor chip). since it stalls heat and won't restart til cold, i'd say its probably a crank sensor. don't let joe blow on the corner work on this problem. he'll solitary do a tune up, replace a few parts and after you pay the bill he'll say he couldn't fix it so filch it to the dealer. happens adjectives the time. see the nearest dealer first, ok.

If all this does not cure the problem, take the coup¨¦ to a reputable repair shop and ask him to hook it up to the scanner. If there are any problems with the oozing system, it should show up on the scanner. Usually diagnostic fees will be waived if the shop does the repairs. Was there fuel surrounded by the tank when you brought it out of storage? There may be some trash or the gas in the cistern has gone bad for sitting so long.It sounds similar to a fuel problem, check the filter first, then the pump.If you can, flush out the tank of adjectives the fuel, remove the fittings on the fuel line, blow some compressed air from the reservoir all the way to the front of the engine where on earth the fuel line goes into the engine to blow out any trash or deposits that may hold accumulated during storage.Hope this helped. It is probably the alternator. but also check the fuel filter, fuel injectors/carburator, and fuel splash. Seeing as the car has be sitting for a year, it sounds like the gas may have gone fruitless. Bad gas will clog up the fuel filter. My suggestion is to have the gas in the reservoir removed either by siphoning it into a gas can and refilling the container with some premium grade gas. Also attach some fuel injector cleaner and one bottle isopropyl dry gas. Once you get the car running, capture the car on the highway and run it at highway speeds for at least an hour. After sitting that long, it requirements to be run for a while. Have the oil changed soon too. And check the battery. Baterries will sulfate and not hold a charge if departed uncharged for any length of time.If all this does not cure the problem, take the coup¨¦ to a reputable repair shop and ask him to hook it up to the scanner.
