in certainty you could put a small flame oiut if you smother it with petrol
A spark or sorce of ignition like a hot piece of carbon surrounded by the combustion chambor in a dirty engine, (bad)or the timed spark event provided by the ignition system. (good)

Also excessive pressure, and heat can rationale predetionation mostly common in dirty engines, or glorious compression engines with the use of low octane fuel.
A spark or flame. Simple applied heat alone doesn't other do the trick. Case in point.
Have you ever seen the movies that show someone pouring gas on something consequently leaving a small trail out the door only to flick their cigarette contained by to trail causing it to magically burst into flames? It's B.S. You can fill an ashtray next to gasoline and not worry about it catching ablaze. The flash point is too low to ignite as a result of the cig's radiant heat.
Wanna make it shift boom? Throw a match.
any sort of heat contained by a car engine a spark plug ignites it and the spark is produced by a coil which uses a collapsing appealing field and large current to induce a big voltage in the secondary electric wiring and from here is send to the park plugs by a distributor and it is controlled by the computer and the computer knows where on earth th pistons are by a crankshaft position sensor

From a chemical standpoint, gasoline burns because it is a hydrocarbon whose vapors readily break down and recombine with oxygen in the presence of steam, during which energy from the breaking of the gasoline's chemical bonds is released as heat and pale.

From a mechanical point of view, the fuel and nouns mixture in your car's engine are ignited by finances of an electric spark created by the spark plugs, or, in diesel engines, by high boil from compressing the air inside the cylinder.
Exactly the same point PETROL ignites, it has a low flash point, the slightesrt spark will igite the condensation if in the correct fuel to air concentration

Also not a soul has mentioned that the fumes are heaver than air so they sit surrounded by low areas or inspection pits and stay there (very bad), as you can inadvertently ignite the gas and bang!..no more eyebrows.
the flashpoint have to be reached combined with a source of ignition, once the flashpoint have been reach(temperature at which it will burn)any source of ignition will burn it,a spark ,red hot particle,a game.but it is the fumes that will burn not the fuel.as the fuel heats up more of it is turned to fumes.i dont recommend trying this at home but i was shown years ago that a capfull of iced fuel will actually extinguish a match as nearby are no fumes present!
