What is a rocker panel?

and if they need to be replaced......how's that work?

2001 Pontiac Grand Am?

Answers:    The rocker Panel is a "boxed" structure that runs between the tiller arches underneath the doors. Most newer vehicles own a plastic garnish bolted to the panel for better appearance.

If the trimmings is needed to be replaced, it unbolts and a tentative one is bolted on. Color matching is the biggest concern, although accurate fit is sometimes a problem. If the rocker "panels" need to be replaced, the motor was probably wrecked or rusted. This replacement is EXTREMELY precarious, as the panel must be torched off and hot ones must be welded put money on. Because of the tight fit, it is nearly impossible to match the inspired quality of the motor. It also will introduce twisting and stress risers in the vehicle making it dicey to drive. Even if the replacement is done well, it is still not going to make as the original panel.

Do those "40+ hp" "chip" deal you...

A rocker panel is the strip under the doors of the vehicle. They replace them when the rust out. The old-fashioned one is cut off and the up to date one is welded put money on in. Rocks and stones fly up from the tires and chip the paint and some times comfort cause them to rust out.
