Answers: a muffler wont do so much. think catback exhaust system or possibly even straight pipe?
the car and engine size matter alot, if you have for a time 4 cylinder engine id catch a dynomax turbo muffler maybe or an apex n1 muffler, the can type will provide you better flow, less backpressure, and more available horsepower, if the size is too big youll own too little backpressure and lose horsepower in the low to mid rpm gamut and maybe own a little gain surrounded by the high extension MAYBE. id shift with something around 2.5 inch outlet on a 4 cylinder motor.
if its larger or turbo'd. go next to something bigger, probably like 3 inches to 3 and a partly, 4 inches would be suitable if u drove a v8 engine.
so if its a small saloon look into, dynomax and apex exhausts dynomax will sure be cheaper but apex will be more highend and probably more results
if its a big car, probably flowmaster or magnaflow, but if your looking for cheaper, dynomax also make mufflers for larger engines.
but lets not forget that you could run a full exhaust setup for maximum horsepower. headers, hi flow catalytic convertor, muffler, piping.
