the only reason glorious compression engines run high octane is to prevent the fuel from igniting earlier it enters the cyl then since it is compressed to its fullest

87 octane will work in most. unless your sports car has the premium fuel only on the fuel gage it is setup for 87. The octane number is just stating this is the minimum for that range actual may be higher than premiumWhatever is the cheapest.
