i hava an s10 pick 1987. my5 speed transmission only shefts up to 2nd grear and thats it. what could be the problem? and would it be expensive to repair. i installed a rebulit engine and thats when my trouble stared.
Sounds like a problem near either the syncro or the fork.
You are going to have to hoist it back up, remove the transmission, and enjoy a look to find out. If you did the engine your self, the this shouldn't be an expensive job.
Answers: sounds approaching it's something you did when you changed the engine, you apparently don't have the shifter linkage hooked up right.

Did you remove the trans at the same time you did the motor? If so did you reinstall the shifter contained by the proper position? If it was in gear when you removed it and it be reinstalled in the wrong slot that would explain it. Re and re the shifter, making sure it is in impartial before and after installation Check the engine mounts and shift linkages, they are most expected binding on something, since this happened right after the engine replacement.
