I have a 1991 Nissan Maxima
Installed clean outer tie rods, ball joint and struts ,
Took it to Pepboys for a wheel alignment right after I installed everything . My request for information is when you adjust the outer tie rods do remove the end near the cotter pin and castle nut and pop off the tie rod ? Or do you loosin up the inner tie rod side nut and adjust it ( spin it ) from that side ? The object I ask is they( Pep Boys) say I tightened the tie rod nut and stripped it . I torqued adjectives nuts to spec . All other parts are fine . Is Pep Boys blowin smoke ?
Answers: Adjusting the "toe" angle does not require removal of the outer tie rod. Backing off the locking nut and loosen the snap ring boot clamp of the tie rod side, rotating the inner tie rod shaft clockwise/counterclockwise is the adjustment procedure for "setting toe".
