Answers: Chuck's answer is about as accurate as you are going to get. Tires are a witches brew of multiple chemicals. That formula is constantly changing as topical formulas are found that better hold the road, work better in precipitation or have better longevity. I can't read out I have notice any difference in the smell of tires but my trunk may not be anywhere near as honourable as yours is.
Bottom line is the tires today are different than the tires of yesterday and they are different than the sunshine before. All this is done surrounded by an effort to brand name a better all around tire for the common public.
