Working as an auto mechanic?

I would like to be working in an auto mechanic, to bring some money and I can learn more about fixing cars, that course I don't have to get ripped stale and fix my car on my own. I'm going to be 17 this summer hopefully I can get the position. So anyone with personal experience, is it a good hypothesis and could it be possible to own a mechanic shop?

Good luck, hope you go and get it! but, where you work depends on if you are able to bring back the job or not, some shops require that you be at least 18 yrs ancient becuase of insurance reasons. Be sure to ask before you travel in for any interviews. As for owning your own shop, that's a while down the road, you'll need to do some schooling, approaching ASE and a specialized school depending on what make you'd resembling to work on. Not to mention just learning the essentials, and some business management courses. if you hav eyour own shop... it could be great IF.

If you enjoy good customers
if you have well-mannered technicians
if you have all the tools you necessitate
if you can deal with a boom or bust industry
if you relish working for people that will use you until you have zilch left to offer

I enjoy the customers, the other techs and the work.
I hated the dealership owners who charged $110 and hour and payed 21-25 a flat rate hour with no bonus, meeting, 401k ect.

If you like to work in a insulting field with well brought-up people around you...go for it.

a short time ago beware of the owners, service managers ect who just wanna use you

Can anyone relief?

Answers:    Well... To be a good mechanic, you need to own a passion for it... and really like to do it. There is wearing clothes money to be made in this field, but you will without doubt not get rich. If you really want to do this... you will need to start out working contained by a shop as a helper and trying to attend a trade school... win some hands on experience, and book smarts. Listen to the old dudes, you will revise the tricks you won't get from any book.

You need to engineer sure you want to do stuff the right way, there are already too frequent "hacks" out there pretending there mechanics of late because they can change oil. Never seize a big head about things, you will never know it adjectives, and must be will to accept that. The learning process will never pause, all mechanics no matter how long they've be turning wrenches, learn new things everyday.

Owning a shop, and man a mechanic are two different things... any shop owner will tell you that. Turning wrenches, and running a business are two separate animals. To be successful, you need to know both... and highly well if you're looking to survive, and even owning a shop will not make you rich any... it's even harder work, with more stress.

Don't get me wrong... I own a few terribly successful shops, and have been doing this for a long time, but it can be a difficult job. I have a zeal for it, and love it... good and bad. So yeah I hope you find you're answers... and remember to never contribute up on any dream!

- Good Luck!

This is if you have the patients and excitement for it. In Canada, all mechanics and apprentices must be registered to work legally. Grade 12 is a must as all right as completing the required Collage courses and required number of hours in your chosen field (around 8000). Once this is complete, a final exam (you must overrun with a 70%+ average) to become a Certified Automotive Technition. All this and building up your tools. For extra certifications, like emmisions, nouns conditioning etc. some places will train and some you have to get on your own.
