Pioneer SuperTuner III DEH-P6800MP display too bright -- not animated display but the button backlighting!?

My "new" (to me) used car come with a a great nouns system, including a Pioneer SuperTuner III model DEH-P6800 MP (see http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v3... but due to its mounting height and angle on the dashboard, the blue muted is blinding -- both viewed directly and reflect in the windshield.

I realize (I Read The Fine Manual) I can dim the animated display, but explicitly NOT the problem!

QUESTION: Is there any opening to dim (or kill) the bright blue glow (backlighting) around the "Rotary Commander" (big knob), the "List" button, etc.? (Either through programming or by vent the case and snipping wires.)

I don't want to replace the element. I like the nouns system and really don't want to break it up. But the blue glow is so blinding I'm afraid I'll break up the CAR!

I'd be ready to pay a service tech to eradicate the backlights if that's what it takes...

Thanks for any info ...

Car Stereo Problem?

Answers:    You could lift the faceplate apart, and color the LED's behind the faceplate next to a Sharpie to tone them down. Not a task for some one who is not routinely inclined.
