This is the most confusing thing to me, speaker power and amp power, people voice don't overpower, don't underpower, but there's no consistent opinion. Anyways, my question characteristics of relates to that and my previous question. As I stated before, my speakers are DJ-quality sour brand 200w 3 ways, about half a meter wide open by a meter and a half tall. My amp can pump out power much great than the speakers ratings, 1000w jammy, but I don't. But this is what I don't understand, when I play my speakers at their "max" power, 200w, it sounds as quiet as partially the volume of a boom-box!! A boom-box can't fill a room where I requirement to DJ!! When I overpower at 400w-500w the volume is better, even though I've manually adjusted the base to almost be nonexistent. Why next, are my speakers rated max 200w? 200w of sound is zilch!! A DJ would die on that. How can these be real DJ speakers? How can I take these speakers seriously if their max nouns is equivalent to that of a boom-box?
The rating has to do with the determine of wire used to wind the voice coil, the magnet, and the suspension of the speaker. It is describing you that it will take 200W of constant input without risky the speaker. We all know that music is not a constant level so they will sometimes rate them next to a max wattage that is good for brief period before damaging the driver.
Alright, your right there's much confusion but the best thing really is to match the RMS.
If you can't game the RMS, just slightly over the RMS, but no more than 10% is okay.
Underpowering is okay, but not a good theory. This can cause seizing of the voice coils overtime.
What you really involve to do is just match the RMS beside the RMS and nobody will have to worry in the order of any sort of damage.
And always jump by RMS, never MAX or PEAK.
Even a small low powered RMS can get louder than something triple its power.
It's just the use and quality of speaker.
Buying a 200RMS sony sub will probably be as loud and strong as a 150RMS Rockford Fosgate.
Better quality, better accord and quality.
Look into better products. They don't have to be the most expensive any.

First off, under powering will NOT grounds seizing of the voice coils over time as towel head say.
It's far better to under power than over power.
An example, when I turn my volume down, I'm actually underneath powering my speakers. This is no way harms them.

Answers: I think you're misunderstanding a key item. 200w of power, has nothing contained by relation to actual sound levels.
As an example, I enjoy a set of speakers for my home stereo that run on 80w RMS, and can run up to around 130 decibels. Which is the same level as a spray engine.
The problem more likely lies in your choice of speaker, fairly than power.
