Weird smell coming from the subwoofer?

when i play my subs for a little while it starts to smell no smoke nothing close to that still plays fine but smells weird its in a ported box so rather help plz.

First, make sure your subs are wired to your amp correctly. If that isn't the baggage then make sure that you are not overpowering your subs. If adjectives of that is fine make sure that your gain is set correctly. Use sparky's guide to set the gain and you will be fine.

Underpowering a sub will NOT produce damage. What can cause destroy is if your sending the sub a distorted signal. This is caused by the gain being set too big.
The gain is set too high, causing the amp to clip and convey too much power to the sub.

When an amp is clipping horribly, it can actually send up to twice it's rate power to the sub in the form of DC (not good for speakers) and blow it.

Turn the gain down a bit.

Answers:    If the woofer is new, this could be run of the mill. Or you could be over/under powering it and frying the voicecoil.
