I've been using Garmin Nuvi 350 since 2006, it came loaded near European maps, for my motoring holiday in USA and Canada I bought North America map later, these are loaded on a SD card. Then I purchased Slovak maps.
I've loaded it next to UK and European speed camera database, and successfully tested it in London:-).
All in adjectives, I used the Nuvi in the UK, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Italy (rural mountain areas), Czech republic, Slovakia, USA (including LA, Seattle and San Francisco) and Canada. I always get where I wanted to in need any problems.
My brother got a summer job contained by London as a delivery driver. His task be to drive a van and deliver souvenirs to those small paraphernalia shops and stalls in central London. It be his first driving experience in London, he used the Nuvi and never got lost - no problems next to one way streets around Oxford Street.
I always located anything I considered necessary, from a petrol station to grocery store or a parking lot.
TomTom has strong position in the UK and some shop assistant do recommend them, but that's it. Garmin have much more expertise and experience with mapping.
Check out Amazon.co.uk, they hold low prices and there's plenty of Nuvis to choose from under 200 pounds.
