01 Toyota Solara - Check Engine Light?

I bought a used 2001 Toyota Solara SLE V6 about four months ago. Havent put too many miles on it at adjectives, but I was driving it and the check engine light come on. I have no idea why. It seem to drive fine. The only thing is that the exhuast have a pretty strong gas odor. But I remember noticing that before. I'm not sure if that could be slice of the problem. I guess this is kind of stupid to post, a check engine light could be anything. I a short time ago hope I didnt get sold a car near problems on it. I just hope this is an inexpensive repair. Any advice or useful words?
