1990 ford ranger gas pump?

trucks been running fine. next choked while i was driving within 1st up-hill slowly, but didn't cut off. thought it be close to being out of gas (fuel appraise doesn't work). a few hrs. later i started it up and it be obviously have trouble getting fuel, but never choked off. drove down the hummock and when i reached the highway and give it gas it sputtered and soon choked off. started again trying to take home it to the gas station, and less than a mile following same thing. get gas...nothing. changed filter...zilch. sounds like it wishes to start, didn't even with startter spray. fuse below the hood is good. checked filtyer again today and within is no gas coming from the tank. any thinking?

Answers:    Have you ever changed the in queue fuel filter, there is a thermal cut past its sell-by date on the pump so it doesn't burn up.
I would pull the cistern and clean the pick up filter and the inline filter would receive changed as when you ran it out of fuel it picks up plentifully of "stuff" from the bottom of the tank. especially true on a '90

Your fuel pump is electric, when you run it dry of gas the pump heat up and burns out.You will have to purchase a different fuel pump to correct your problem.
