hello, 1996 dodge dakota, 5 spd manual. seem to not have alot of power. 155000 mi, and i push the gas down the the floor and that same amout of power excists as if i be to lightly press the gas petal. airfilter is righteous and i ran fuel cleaner though it along near premium. could the engine be shot? also i hear this annoying rattle and i don;t ruminate it is a lifter or rod. when its cold contained by the morning, i don't hear it. as it warms up, i can. any one own this same problem? i allready put a waterpump on it, and the knocking go away, now its newly a rattle.
Answers: you entail to check the timing chain and gears within it if they get worn down legitimate bad it throws the timing so far out that it cause a major loss of power,the computer can net up for 6-8 degrees of timing loss but no more than that,if the secure and gears are bad it will bring in it loose power real discouraging,i don't think it would be the engine worn out on it at 155 k those last well beyond that and later some,but i have replaced a great deal of chains and gears and timing belts on the ones that has them,at 150 k they should be replaced,most go out before that,self at least check it,psyche say your going to find profusely of wear on it,and that may be the noise your audible range also,the slack in it,apposite luck.
