Hi everyone. I've noticed, since hitting 80,000 km that a strange rattle noise occur in the front completion somewhere. I only see it during highway driving when I slow down at stops, heading into curves, forced to slow down behind slower drivers on the highway, etc. Anyone know what might be cause that?
Sounds like a Heat Shield on or around the exhaust several or it couls also be the Catalytic Convert too they tend to rattle when old/worn...
Need to check it, I don`t know tap/hit the areas and listen...
Probably one of the exhaust warmness shields - they often start to rust for a moment at the welds, consequently vibration shakes them loose. One of mine started to come loose at in the region of 75,000 miles / 120,000 km (on an '01 Focus ZX3.)
Good luck!
Answers: Could be more serious than a heat shield.. depending on how loud it is. Ford have a tsb on front springs where they be breaking due to corrosion and extended the warranty on these parts for quite some time. Also issued a tsb on re-tightening some bolts contained by the suspension (although that may have be rear suspension only).
Bottom Line: Contact your mechanic or seller to put it on a lift and inspect the suspension, including springs, struts, links, and bolts. It may even be covered by warranty. No business what, if something is loose you don't want it coming apart while you are driving as that won't be covered and will be dangerous!
