97 4runner - cigarette lighter packed up?

I have a 97 4runner next to 165000k on it. I bought this used about a year ago- great condition. Only bleak side is the cigarette lighter doesn't work.

I don't smoke, so its not a huge crisis, but charging the cell phone and ipod, etc, on long drives are problems.

My mechanic and I checked to see if perhaps it be just a blown fuse- no luck in that.

This isn't the spring-loaded lighter part that's broken. Its the actual heat element. I've tried cigarette chargers past and they don't work- no 'heat' coming to the plug.

I can order the element from my dealer- is this a hard repair? I've done bare bones. Spark plugs, thermostats, etc. Should I be able to do this? What tools do I involve? Other suggestions?

Answers:    Got to be a fuse. The interior light and/or gauge fuse on Toyota's usually includes the cigarette lighter. If you don't have a chime unfolding you that your vehicle has an approachable door that could be the fuse to the lighter as well. Check adjectives the fuses even the ones on the front compartment, if that does not work it could be the plug on the lighter that is disconnected.
