hey guys, i have a 2003 3 series and i wanna know more more or less sports drive n had few question....
1) what are the negatives of driving within sports drive(gas, wear, etc..).
2) also say i'm going around 40 and while i'm driving i stroke the stick to the left to grip sports drive, is that bad for the vehicle, do i have to be contained by a complete stop to turn it on?
3) And after i tap it to the vanished to start Sports drive, taping it up will turn the coup¨¦ into manual(steptronic) right?
1) Sports drive causes the gears to revision more frequently, and allow the engine to rev harder. This puts a little more stress on copious components of the car. It also frivolous gas. But as long as you perform regular repairs on the vehicle, I don't see this as being a problem. If you are trying to label the car ultimate for 300,000 miles with the lowest repairs costs possible, you'd probably not use sport mode. But in adjectives honesty if that's your attitude, you'd buy a Honda. There is little point in buying a BMW and consequently not enjoying the sporty agency it drives. So I seriously wouldn't worry nearly it. I certainly wouldn't expect the nouns to suddenly fall apart even if you used sport mode adjectives the time.
2) A car as modern as a 2003, the gear box is computer controlled contained by many ways. Changing contained by to sport mode simply instructs the on board computer to prepare for a more sporty drive. You can switch to sport at any speed, minus damage.
3) Once you are within DS mode (sport mode) pushing the stick forwards or back will transmutation the gears. I think the 2003 model will show what gear you are within on the dashboard as M1, M2, M3 etc. On my car you enjoy to move it back into D to turn stale the manual mode.
This is a good cross-question and one that I happen to know totally well. I hold the same set up on my Crossfire and it is great.
Let's vote you are entering an off ramp from the highway and you want to slow faster than the motor normally allows, thump the shifter to downshift to the next gear, down again to the subsequent and so forth. It will not hurt the car although it does consume a tad bit more gas.
I across the world do this on a regular basis, it's fun to shift and hear the exhaust data as it revs up to 6,000 RPM, shift into the next gear beside a slight tap and your on your approach to driving excitement.
This can be done upshifting or downshifting, either passageway, it is what is designed for and will not have any insalubrious consequences. Rick
Answers: BMW has built-in safeguard. It is virtually impossible to harm your system, and the vehicle will shift automatically if you don't.
