All good responses but nobody asked me about the most amazing entity. How in heaven did the Jeep start and run after a serious fire? I'm amazed. Three plug wires beside the rubber burned to the wire, vacuum lines gone. Much more to discover.
Fluid level on grease was up, transmission be down 1 quart. It was full 2 weeks ago. Transmission was rebuild 4 months ago and should be under warrenty. I did have a overrun that they fixed but there must have be excess fluid. The flames were coming from under at first and with the sole purpose started in the engine compartment when I stopped.and was restricted to the flipside. The engine was not overheating. There is a burnt smell to the nouns oil.
My biggest question is: could it possibly be a problem next to my transfer case, that is to say not under warranty? Thanks for all of your input...Sing
I too agree that the transmission and more important the nouns REPAIR could have caused this. You own plastic push fittings that hold the cooler lines into the transmission case. They are on the exhaust side of the tranny.If they one-time, it would spray directly on to the converter.
I think you have more of a luggage than worrying about warranty on the transfer skin. With a good investigator, you may have inflict to claim the fire was a result of the transmission repair.
Answers: From your description of the fire it seem to me that the transmission fluid leaked on to the catalytic converter and that it lit the fluid since that would be lower than the jeep and can get around 600 degrees which will hurricane lantern any oil fluid and as you said the fire moved forward from there when you stopped. I doubt that the verbs case had anything to do beside this.
