Ford F150 4.2L Rod Knock?

At high idle, downshifting, or moderate to rugged acceleration there is a noise coming from the engine compartment. The with the sole purpose way I can describe the noise is that it sounds newly like rod knock.

It was taken to multiple dealerships and looked at by a handful of mechanics and it be believed to be rod knock, but since that diagnosis, I have put on at least 30,000 miles beside no problems except for the noise.

If it is rod knock, is it typical for the engine to last this long short blowing a rod?

If it isn't rod knock, what do you think it could be? What about a crack within the torque converter?

Does anyone else have this problem with their vehicle?

Thanks!
