Mechanic quesitons, 1993 Volkswagen Jetta GL?

The car have over 291,000 km on the original engine (2.0L gas, 5 spd).

1) What immensity of oil is recommended for winter use (Canadian climate)? Can I put 5W30 into it or does it involve something thicker?

2) What is the rated duration of the timing belt? The old belt and tensioner be changed at 212,000 km by Volkswagen.

Later I was told the VW belts final 90,000 km on the gas engines by someone but I want to confirm it.

3) How can I check the clutch for it's relative wear? Is there a perceptible adjuster whose marks/position I can look at (as on other cars)?

Thanks

Does anyone own any opinion how much...

Answers:    When I lived in Pennsylvania, I still run 20/50 with no adverse effects. I would adjust the timing belt, it's time. As for the clutch, I really don't have any perception. Unless it's causing an issue, I'd start out it be.

Good luck...

Usually you would use thinner oil within the winter and thicker oil surrounded by the summer!
Thinner oil help the car to start easier surrounded by the winter thicker oil will newly give the engine more strain and rob longer to warm up!
Thicker grease protects better in the summer because it`s harder to breakdown!
As for the belts it`s best (a) something like 80,000 km just to be undisruptive or check your manual it have to be in in that in the service wedge!
Clutch should be the same story check the encyclopaedia
my advise if it`s not slipping move off it alone the more you play with these things the more nearby is to break!
