I know the tracer isn't the bes car around, but it is especially fuel efficient. However we took it to a mechanic and he said that furnace is producing heat, but it isn't getting to the motor.
He said there is most credible a vent that isn't opening. What other problems could this be, and what are some fixes I could act myself?
If the engine gets to operating heat, heater core blocked, or blend door stuck on cold.
You can see on the gone side near the accelerator pedal, move the heat from hot to cold and see if the lever moves
If the furnace core is getting hot water, as your mechanic said, next it is indeed likely to be a stove door. These are controlled by vacuumed produced by the engine. The likely cause are a loose vacuum hose, a vacuum leak or a stuck door.
Best to be a contortionist to work underneath any dashboard! If you really want to try anything, get a Haynes or Chilton booklet which will help a touch.
Good luck
Answers: The Tracer does not use vacuum to move the blend door. It is attached with a cable from the space heater control unit to the blend door. The cable runs from the bustle, around next to the gas pedal up to the blend door. Check this cable and produce sure that both ends are still atttached. You can see it from the driver's side footwell, while looking under the bustle, just over the gas pedal. The attachments for the cable may enjoy broken, or the temperature control itself.
