how hard is it to do again a gmc 305 to 350. does the block need to be bored out or is it a short time ago the stroke that is longer. if it does involve to be bored and i send it out to a shop to own that done can disassembly and reassembly of crank, pistons,cam, heads ect be done beside basic mechanic skills and tools or is in attendance a need for precise harmonizing tools and press fit bearing tools. indistinguishable ting goes for rebuilding a 350. is it important to bore the cylinders for a simple rebuild. can adjectives original parts be reused if they are within good condition. my hope is to buy a gmc1500 pick up with the 305 and do from scratch it to 350 or buy one with the 350 and modify it to enjoy 350 to 400 hp. what needs to be changed. is in that a certain type of crankshaft or piston or cam or skipper that i need. i hold basic power-driven knowledge and tools but i want to maintain the cost down. if i can do the work myself exept for boring of cylinders i will but i dont know if it is possible or worth the trouble. thanks for your help out

It would be better to find a donor 350 engine that is to say running, not knocking, but purely worn out, and you have the requisites for a good economical go back to the beginning. Horsepower cost money, and if you want 400 horses, then you are going to spend some money to do so. A 305, and a 350 are totally different engines when it comes to the insides. One would be complex pressed to get 300 horses from a 305 due to the small bore and other things. A 350 is internally on the brink, and you can get a renovate kit from www.northernautoparts.com cheap. It comes beside everything you need for the start again for around $175 or less. A perfect donor engine can be rebuilt lacking doing much to the block, and you probably can use the very same crank "if" it doesn't knock. Many engines can be built in need even boring them "if" there isn't a ridge, or worn egg shaped cylinder bores. If it be me, and on a tight budget, I would build a 350, and purchase a new set of Vortec head from the dealer. They flow as biddable as many aftermarket head at half the cost. It does require an aftermarket intake, but contained by the long run you will have smaller number money in the build than you would rebuilding the stock head, and this will put you more towards the 400 horses you are wanting. I would have a long consult with a machinist within your local area who builds engines. He may even hold a donor engine for you cheap. Pay attention to the cam, lifters, and especially the valve springs if you stir with a highly developed lift than stock. This is also an nouns to discuss with the machinist. I admire your train of thinking here, and this IS a living you can do, but I would do my homework "before" tackling this assignment. Knowledge is power, and knowledge will also retrieve you plenty of money in the long run. With the right components you can hit 400 horses for a great deal less than you might conjure up. Take your time, do it right, and if in doubt nearly "anything" don't just step ahead and do it.. Find Out.
