Opinions, Car Makes!?

Ok here is the application. I plan on purchasing an import, ricey hotness. I would like to find something that has potential to be fast etc. But my biggest concern is reliability, i would rather spend money on performance and looks a bit than constant repairs.
I realize that as performance increases, at a certain point reliabilty go down the drain. That aside, what would be a good choice for an import specifically going to tear it up, and be reliable too.
Please no remarks hating on ricers, freshly opinions regarding reliability and working.
I have considered a toyota celica, honda civic, or prelude.
I have also hear both ways about mazda and nissan, so im not sure what to believe about them, but a 240sx or 300zx would be nice, IF THEY ARE RELIABLE!
Please hand over me some imput, I have about 8k to work near on the purchase of the vehicle. Let me know what will be best for performance and reliability
Thanks everyone!!

Ford buffs out near .....?

Any Japanese cars are reliable. Most Mazda RX-7's and RX-8's break down fast because people do not know how to pilfer care of rotary powered cars. They were not taken attention to detail of. The Nissan's are good. The 300zx Twin Turbo is faster than the current Nissan 350z.
The Honda Prelude is the best handling. The Civic does not handle that resourcefully but it has a great sounding engine. The Celica is not that good. Not various tuners tune it to be more than 300HP.
A used Honda S2000 can be bought for $13,000-15,000.
There are also Subaru Impreza WRX/WRX STI and Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart/EVO, but they are expensive too.
You could also buy a Mitsubishi 3000GT, Acura Integra, Mistubishi Eclipse, Hyundai Tiburon GT, VW GTI, and Mazdaspeed Protege for around $8,000.

For under 8 grand you can take a lot of ricey goodness.
Nissan 240sx IS reliable and great.
Toyota Supra is reliable and great.
Honda Prelude isn't too shabby.
Honda Del Sol is fantastic.
Essentially, stick to japanese brands and you'll return with your reliability. In terms of performance upgrades, stick to commonly upgraded cars. The ones I own listed above are commonly used for one main justification: they're cheap and they can handle the extra power. So stick to mainstream.
Also, be smart roughly speaking upgrading, for example: don't put in a turbo without upgrading the cooling system. If you do that, reliability... GONE. So, stick widely held, upgrade wisely, have fun, drive reliable. You should be fine if you stick to that=D
