I have a Peugeot 306 1.4 petrol. When the car is cold, when I move from 1st to 2nd, the gears 'crunch' a little. This doesn't seem to ensue when the car is warm. To stop the crunching, I enjoy to move the stick into the middle of the gate before select 2nd.
I have also noticed that when I select 3rd gear, the stick seem to catch on the cogs of the gearbox. To stop this, I have to dawdle for the revs to drop before gently select 3rd.
1st, 2nd and reverse have always be difficult to select. Sometimes I have to force the stick into gear.
This may be unrelated, but I also appear to have lost some power only just as well. The car does not expedite as quickly as she used to.
It has be suggested that I may need a new gearbox/clutch. I may try to swing the geabox oil first to see if this has any effect.
Has anyone any thinking?
Thankyou!!
of late sell it for scrap
1 you will requirement a new clutch if it is crunching
2 try re-gapping you`re plugs to the correct setting
3 i can`t see putting new grease in will make much difference to the gears crunching

Answers: Do the replacing in order of pressure. Least important and lowest price thing first.
1. Don't join new oil, lately make sure there is satisfactory oil. This is difficult to do on a 306. Open gear oil upper plug, and swarm until it starts to overflow. This probably isn't your problem.
2. The gears will not change easily, and you will enjoy much less acceleration if you need a NEW CLUTCH (IT IS RELATED!) . Do you own 130k km or more? The gears don't shift smoothly if the clutch spring can't push the clutch disc (driven plate) away from the flywheel. (disengaging the gears)
Replace clutch spring, disc and release bearing..THEN you will also need 100% unusual gear oil to be replaced.
Don't wait too long. You don't want to put together your flywheel extra hot with a worn clutch plate. The flywheel steel surface loses its temper and flatness. If it have turned blue-ish..yikes.
3. Last of all, if the ABOVE didn't stop the problems, think in the order of replacing the gearbox. Don't buy a new one, there are lots of used ones for this discontinued model of Peugeot.

Hi, if your clutch is fully disengaging later you can usually fix the problem by removing the gearbox oil and replacing it with a 90 gear grease which is a thinner consistency then the standard 80/90. The problem disappears when the car warm up because the oil viscosity improves as the grease warms. the problem is the synchro rings find it hard to bite when they age so the immediate fix is the lighter oil which will not harm the gearbox.91 civic dx-when u turn right it...
