We're looking at a Pontiac Sunfire that has the first body style (not sure about exact year) and my dad said it have a 3.1L V6 engine however the internet has no record of a Sunfire of that model to come next to anything like that at all. My dad said it be the fastest car he has ever drove and the coup¨¦ dealer said the old owner used to see.
Any one know of any motor they could have even put in that item?
i currently own a pontiac sunfire and so does my daughter. she has a 2002 - 2.2 and i as well own a 1995 - 2.2 . boyfriend is a mechanic the just engine he has heard of human being in a sunfire is a 2.2 or 2.4..someone is mistaken on the engine size

Answers: well if the old owner used to see it, i suppose he could have dropped a 3.1l in it. and if he did that i'm sure the total engine was bored/ported, and everything else.
iirc the biggeset motor they have ever put surrounded by a sunfire is a 2.8l v6.

The Pontiac Sunbird, the predecessor to the Sunfire have an optional 3.1 L V-6 from 91 to 94. I don't know about putting one within a Sunfire, but that might be what they used.

The Sunfire only came beside a 2.2 liter and a 2.4 liter. The 2.2 was the faster engine of the two because it was an Ecotech 2.2. Even beside the Ecotech the car was nought special though. most of the sun fires came next to the 2.2L four cylinder engines but some did come with the 3.1L V6 the older ones close to 1987 to about 1990 came next to the smaller 2.8L V6. I used to work on cars as a summer job and I did see some sunfires with the 3.1L contained by them but they where all 3 speeds. But anyway I wouldn't verbs about it the 3.1L is a very dependable little engine the single real problems are the coil packs and the ICM going discouraging but they only go impossible if the engine is very dirty. and even if the coil packs or the ICM travel bad its still cheap enough to replace. The 3.1L any cam with the 3 speed auto or the five speed manual surrounded by later years you could also get it beside the 4 speed auto. The way that you can tell a four cylinder sunfire from a six cylinder is by looking at the muffler the V6 sunfires enjoy two exhaust pipes coming out of the muffler and the four cylinder sunfires have a single out let. I hold a 1993 Grand Prix with the 3.1L with the four speed auto and it is pretty sudden. the engine has 140 HP and 180 foot pounds of torque in your vehicle but in mine it has 155 HP and 185 foot pounds of torque.
