Are you sure you didn't misunderstand and the party was really chitchat about porting the intake numerous & exhaust manifold?
I've never see this attempted on either a cold nouns intake or an exhaust - these are so thin that you'd probably cut right through them if you tried to port them. Normally "porting" refers to taking a die grinder and reshaping the ports of the cylinder chief for better air flow. However, the permanent status is also used to mean reshaping other castings - intake manifolds, turbo wastegates, throttle bodies, etc - next to a grinder for better air flow, too.
