I'm at wits end, and can't afford coup¨¦ replacement. Every morning the engine cuts out when I start it. I have to repeat the 'switch sour and start, switch off and start' for something like 5mins at the moment, and come winter it'll get worse. I don't enjoy access to a garage, which would keep the vehicle warm.
Two garages looked at it, First one said nought wrong, it's just an dated car (H reg.) Second one replaced spark plugs, rotary panama and rotary arm, and the cable. To no avail!
I've tried all ways to seize car started ... no choke, quarter/half/full choke .. adjectives permutations. Can anyone offer suggestions please?
It sounds to me similar to the glo plugs aren't getting hot enough anymore!! try a scrappers for cheap replacement
I am surprised to even hear that anyone still drives a Renault.
If the car have any more than 150,000 miles on it, it's probably just worn out. The compression surrounded by the engine is so low that under cold start, it can't continue combustion until the engine warms up and the rings expand to stamp around the pistons. One visual indicator is grease smoke from the exhaust pipe.
Run compression test to confirm.
Answers: poxy renault...
check the battery/solenoid front...
check teh rotor arm/cap/plugs/condenser...
and last, check the ignition switch... they wear out and when you crank it, it connects, but when you release it, the ignition circuit get broken, and the engine doesnt fire properly, if at all...
check by shorting the starter circuit near the ignition on... (dont tun the key)
