Where is the computer located? What is the difference between the Interceptor 318 and the regular 318. Can I rebuild mine to manufacture 300 to 350 RWHP. I have awfully little in the truck and plan to do from scratch it over the next several years to concluding another 15 to 20 years. Thanks
Answers: I have a 1985 ramcharger beside the 5.2 police interceptor motor.There is no computer but there is an electronic ignition control module.The chief differences between the intercepter and the regular 318 is in the head and carburation.Interceptors have swirlport head factory and a factory 4 barrel rochester and many.Ronk W if you don't know the answer why state a false one.Look up 1985 - 1988 dodge diplomat police cars they came beside 318 police motors not 360's.Bob mazzolini held an nhra record next to one of these motors.
For 1985 your dodge shouldn't have a computer..
the igition module for the ignition should be on the right paw side of the fire wall just above where on earth the steering column passes thru the hackney carriage floor..
it would be carburated and have one of 3 possible different style carbs not fuel injection... hence no requirement for a computer...
the interceptor would have be a 360 small block not a 318 ...
unless it was a factory special ordered one close to a local ex-cop car I know of...and infact it is in fact no longer 318 cu in because this factory special ordered police lone engine was bored and srtoked to something approaching 355 cubic inches and has a more harsh cam and special better flowing heads...
this motor was special ordered for a remote nouns of Montana... with a massively large county it have a tow package and did dual duty of pulling a mobile organization trailer part time surrounded by additoion to occassion hot pursuits,,,
this car us a drastically rare mid 70's production selection patrol car and not the commonplace police package...
Normal police package were 360's and 440's by that unsettled of model year...
