got a VW passat, I usually drive with "D" shift, but just this minute when I speed up the car, the engine go to over 4000rpm, the speed is only 40kmph, It doesn't rework the gear even I release the gas pedal. when it doesn't change the gear, I hold to turn off the engine and start again, next it will be all right.
It merely happens sometimes. I am wondering if it is something wrong next to ATF or the gear box.
Someone said it sounds like the lockup clutch type torque convertor have failed. Is this channel I have to replace the nouns or get it do again?
Thank you for all the answers
Answers: A failing lock-up is a pretty close diagnosis, the pretext why it's failing is the real cross-question. If you're lucky you've got a mildly clogged gangway, the fluid isn't building enough pressure to adjustment gears.
Before concerning yourself with a pricey nouns repair there are a few things you can do. My first counsel is a flush and filter change. If you've get the know how and the tools to do this at home you'll save some dosh. Add some transmission cleaner/additive (about $7 at most parts stores), drive the vehicle for a couple hundred miles, drop the tranny tub, let adjectives the fluid run out (the torque converter will still be full of it), change the filter, re-install the jar, refill next to fluid and see how it does.
If this does not help you have need of to get it into a shop ASAP...catching a problem rash could save you a ton of money!
Hope this help!
