Just got a Volvo S60 D5 Auto, 04 SE model, on starting within the morning it's very askew and smokey. Once warm it seem fine though.
Its the cold weather, are you letting the space heater plugs warm up previously starting?
Blue smoke is cause by engine oil entering the cylinder nouns and being burned along beside the fuel air mixture. As beside the white smoke, just a small drop of grease leaking into the cylinder can produce blue smoke out the tailpipe. Blue smoke is more expected in elder or higher mileage vehicle than newer cars with a reduced amount of miles.

get the garage to look at it =)
Answers: By your description and that you say yes to Hoot, it sounds to me typical of an indirect injected diesel that have done high mileage or the injectors inevitability servicing.
At 110k that's not high so that eliminate low compression pressures. At 110k the injectors may not have be done. If the engine is at operating temperature and it still smokes blue after the injectors aren't atomizing the fuel properly. Having the injectors tested shouldn't cost much. Rule of thumb is, if you replace the cam belt ( presuming yours has one ) consequently the injectors get a service. This should be done every 100k. If you can gain a hold of the previous owner, he could tell you what's be done. Ask about the fuel filter as well.
