i have a vw golf 1.4 cl (mk3)
i was wondering what the cl intended?
also does anyone know the spec of this car? e.g. bhp, how many valve it has, top speed, acceleration, mpg,
oh yeah btw its a 4 speed gear box, whats the difference between a 4 speed and a 5 speed? will the 5 speed go faster?

Answers: CL's are a base model, that would also explain the 4sp trans and the 1.4l. They are not available here surrounded by the USA the lowest trim level we got is the GL next to the 2.0l aba.
The number of gears don't matter to acceleration as much as the raitos do, they set the RMP's at what speed your going. a short Close ratio trans ex GTI/GLI will have smaller number RMP drop and will acell faster but will restrict your top speed. With taller gears it will take you longer to accelerate but your engine will work smaller amount to keep top speed, that's why you get better MPG.
