I got a 88 caddy beside a mildly tuned chevy 350. But it came from the factory witha 2.56 reverse gear. Thats soo high its impossible to spin the tires from a stop even making descent power. I wonder how my motor would act beside 3.23~3.42 gears. I'm scared to donate 3.73 or higher even though I do own a 4 speed over drive tranny. How would my revs be with some steeper gears? Right immediately I can do 65 at 2,100 RPM. I want my revs to be around 2,600 max at 60. So is this a 3.23 gear that can do this while helping me accelerate better.
Answers: The 3.73 posi is not too ruinous on gas mileage and transfers torque well to the flipside wheels, this flipside mates powerfully the with spanking new 700R with overdrive which I am assuming you hold (makes sense for the year) this is about as big as I would run if I were you otherwise you are going to own a incredible gas sucker on yoru hands.
3.42 will be your over adjectives best gear. You can go near a 3.73 and not have the RPM to large.
