I'm interested in getting a USED Volkswagen beetle, The older style 1972. Whats the max miles I should be looking for on these cars? 100k? 200k? "100,000miles""200,000miles"
i'm glad your interested in an old vw they are really cool cars if you want to buy a 70 s saloon i don't think that the mileage will be accurate it would be better if you directly check the engine check how much does the fly wheel move and check the grease on how dirty it is and check if there is any smoke coming out from the muffler and the compression that is if you turn the circle where on earth the band goes it should turn but no so smooth if it turns easy the engine is tired
and as far as for this cars they can just hang on to going like the energizer bunny for miles and miles without have the engine replaced
and anyhow you re going to have to do some kind of profession in the engine so i would't worry so much for the engine I would verbs more about the chassis if its rusted or not
my aunt has a 71 vw beetle and she ran it to 112,000 miles, the motor go out, nothing worked. every car have its problems.
If it's a air cooled engine I'd expect 100,000 before a chief rebuild
Really depends on maintenance and trouble for car
If you do buy it change grease often as it's air cooled and i.e. hard on the life span of the grease
Could be 5 miles or 90.000 depends on the driver an his driveing. Depends on how good you service it. If you don't change grease, clean oil peak , change oil every 3,000 miles the motor want finishing long at all. Highest I seen a unmarked one last was 130,000, saw plenty needed bright motor by 50,000.
Any aircooled VW on the road today will need engine attention, don't expect to buy one in a minute and drive it forever, unless it's had a recent rebuild. You can ruin a VW engine within 5 minutes without the fan belt, so look it over particularly before buying.
These engines are not designed to run 100,000 miles without have the heads looked at and replaced/rebuilt. Not gonna happen. Break an exhaust tap and lose your engine.
Just plan on getting to know your VW and learn how to work on it yourself. No one will love your VW like you and you might swot something, too.

Answers: Be prepared to work on it frequently.
Hope you dont enjoy a front end collision as there is no engine contained by front of you to protect you.
