You might just be capable of find a GT 1.9JTD for lb10k, but you'll be lucky. Otherwise it'll have to be a 147.

Answers:    Try the GT, its not the cheapest Alfa, but it's considered as one of their best recent cars. The GT's strongest point is its looks. It blends the traditional retro face of Alfa near a futuristic rear extension. The 1.9 diesel is the best engine in the variety and was by far the most popular engine choice. Packing 150BHP the GT diesel can organize 0-60 in 9 second and will go on to a top speed of more than 130mph. Obviously not as breakneck as your M3, but quick nevertheless. You'll be impressed by its fuel cutback though-46mpg. The GT is also roomy for four adults, well built and great to drive. The GT is one of the most desirable cars surrounded by Alfa's range so they tend not to depreciate as heavily as other Alfas. As the GT have only be made since 2004 most of the cars will be being sold through dealer, making them more expensive. The book price for a 2004 model sold through a
dealer is lb12,500. If you can find a privately sold one later that price drops to lb11,000. You may be able to negotiate some sort of discount though as the saloon is in emergency it won't be a large one. So, if you can't stretch your budget what's available? You own a choice between the Alfa 147 3dr or the Alfa 156 saloon (I know it's a public house but the door hanles are hidden) The 147 is probably the more accomplished vehicle. In my view it looks better, is built better and is better to drive than the 156. The best engine is the post motorcade 2005 150bhp 1.9 as used in the GT. In the lighter 147 this will survive 0-60 in 8.5 second and go on to 132mph. Fuel cutback is 48mpg. The 147's main drawback is the need of space in the reverse. Depreciation is also a problem, though this levels out after the first 3 years. A 2005 example will set you rear lb10,500 at a dealer or lb9,500 privately. I'd be in motion for one of these two, though the 156 might be worth a look. First thing I must menion almost the 156 is its age: it was launch way rear in 1997, making it considerably elder than the 147 (launched 2001) and the GT (launched 2004). While it did get a most important facelift in 2003 the 156's age still shows through within a number of areas. I'll win the bad stuff over near now; The 156 is impressively unspacious for a saloon, within fact even the 147 is roomier. The interior, though impressively stylish at launch, now seem a little dated. Quality, though much enhanced on previous Alfas, is still suspect in unshakable areas of the interior. Even after the 2003 revisions the interiors quality still wasn't as dutiful as its rivals. The 156 is nowhere near as desirable as the 147 and GT, so will depreciate more and be harder to provide on. The ride can be harsh too. However for adjectives its faults the 156 still have its good points. It looks honourable, is fun to drive and s very cheap compared to its rivals. The engines are dutiful too-you'll be interested to know that the 156 also comes with a 175bhp 2.4 diesel, well brought-up enough for a 0-60 of 8 second and a top speed of 142mph. Mpg is 43mpg. It also comes with the 150bhp diesel, which give similar performance to the gt, but will conduct operations 48mpg. Price-wise, lb10,000 will get you a 2004 2.4 diesel from a purveyor, a 2005 model privately or a 2005 1.9 from a dealer.
