Which is more reliable ??

1999 Mitsubishi Mountainer or 1999 Ford Explorer ?

X1 gear ratio's?

The Mitsubishi Mountaineer is more reliable, and from my experience the Mitsubishi dealerships are more reliable too. I haven't be very happy beside any of my fords except for my 94 escort that was made by Mitsubishi lol
WTF is a Mitsubishi Mountainer?

Do you mean Montero?
Check out consumer reports and NHTSA for vehicle info. My choice would be more effect by fuel economy than brand name. Each of these are glorious quality. Chances are that the choice of materials used in building these vehicle is better in the Mitsubishi. Also, check for tire manufacturer and tread enthusiasm. How many miles on each?? Take for a moment time and read the owner's manual on each vehicle, especially the section dealing with programmed maintenance. I think the Ford uses a timing secure (does NOT need to be changed) and the Mitsu uses a timing belt, that needs to be changed to prevent spout damage. Research each motor carefully, and make your choice.

Mitsu. The motor surrounded by the Exploder is a design that dates back to the 60's and they still didn't find it right.

That said, it's all about the keeping. A well maintained Ford will other be more reliable than an abused Mitsubishi.

Go for the Explorer. The parts are cheaper and it received higher ability and reliablity scores than the Montero.

Also, parts for the Explorer are cheaper and more readily available.

BTW Jameson: Ford made the Escort here contained by Wayne, Michigan. Not Mitsubishi
I wouldn't get either one.
Ford and Mitsubishi both cause some quality cars/trucks, but neither of these are one of them.
Both are pretty crappy in reliability and since they are both 9 years hoary, it makes it even worse.

Look at an older RAV-4 or a CRV or something if you want an SUV that will closing.
Mitsubishi, although if you get the chance buy Mazda as they are passageway more reliable than either one of them. My Mazda just go on and on, good mpg, good service, awesome sports car!

Edit: Ford own 33% of Mazda, and yeah it is true that some models, like the 626, have closely of Ford parts on them. And the Fiesta also has a lot of mazda and Ford co-operation contained by its manufacture. But it does seem that Ford's withdrawal of reliability hasn't seeped into Mazda's models, although 626 did have problems next to transmission (which was totally Ford).I must own though, I do like the look of the new Mondeo!
