I live in the Gansevoort area within Upstate NY. Im looking for tips on what type of vehicle should I invest in. Im really interested in buying a Subaru Outback or Impreza but Im afraid of jump into something that eventually I will have to deal beside the HEAD GASKET issue the Subarus encounter. I really like the Taurus Wagon since it actually sits resembling 8 people and we are a family of 6. But next again Im afraid to jump into a Ford since I always read that Ford cars are trash etc. etc. I entail a vehicle thats a bit equivalent to a mini van that can fit like 6 people but that can stay inside my $4000 budget. What is good mileage? How old can I dance? 97, 98 , 99. I do not want to invest money on a car that 2 months down the line its posterior to the mechanic...I appreciate all the feedback possible in instruct to make a good edict. And yes, I know about the Honda Accord or Toyota Camry unfortunately those are frozen to come by up here for some reason...
My mom has a 95 taurus articulated vehicle that she bought for 6 like 5 years ago and my friends owns a 98 impreza and i had another friend who have a 96 legacy. There all righteous cars. I would go with the subura though, but it won't fit as copious people. The head gasket issue is not that huge.
Things you hear something like cars does not mean that make and model is cursed beside it. I think the only big issue near any of the cars i list above was that the gasket blew surrounded by the taurus and my dad spend a grand to get the engine cleaned. Suburas are extremely reliable and good cars.
Though I must say progress with a civic or a camry if you can. hope that helps a moment or two.
I work on many vehicles so I will communicate you what you need to know concerning Ford vehicles.
1. they own many engine related problems.
2. they have unpardonable transmissions.
3. they have many electrical problems.
4. pass by on these vehicles and keep looking because they will put you within the poor house very quick.
i am a master tech and trade name a good bit of money on all fords especially the Taurus {any year} so if you would close to to put someone Else's kids to collage its a great investment
mid to late 90's, ford had a through transmission issue, i think it's be cleared up, in the 00 and beyond...
overall, i'd shy away from the taurus, but it might be fine for you...

Theyre great as long as you go with the 3.0L Vulcan or 3.0L Duratec.
The 3.8 is unreliable unless it be kept up perfectly.
The Duratec is more powerful and much more reliable than the Vulcan, but was solely offered on the later models (it replaced the 3.8).
Overheating is the biggest issue, usually caused by wet pump problems.

Answers: I own a Taurus with no problems - 87K miles.
You want a car with 6 form belts, why even consider a Subaru?
The Taurus sedan even has 6 belts and is the highest rate car among the American sedans for maintenance and reliability (consumer reports).
So, the Taurus is a best choice for you if you have need of 6 seat belts. If not, choose something with the smallest amount of rust.

why dont you try to lease a car? ... I'd go next to a Mazda MPV... Kinda like a van but smaller and you should be able to capture it for the price range your looking at. go near a car that a 2000 and up and dont buy anything with 100k+<--- big nono. I hold been in the automotice business for lots years. If you are able to lease do so. You get full warranty payments are really cheap within most cases and you get a brand new reliable motor. Best of luck to you!Theyre great as long as you go with the 3.0L Vulcan or 3.0L Duratec.
