I have a 2003 Ford Explorer. It will be payed off surrounded by a year or so. I am looking at an Acura MDX or Toyota Highlander. I would like having the extra money from not paying sour the car, but there are small things that hold on to going wrong with it or breaking. A month or so ago, the alternator broke. Parts of the car are broken (vanity mirrow cover, vent slat, some of the gasket tubing is coming off).
Thanks! I would trade the car now. Although you enjoy a year left of payments due to the mileage and consistancy of things happening, the depreciation factor and repairs cost that you would hold to put in for that year would cost more than the remaining year of payments.
Once a vehicle hits 100k miles the value of it to a marketer is basically chopped in partially. However if you feel that there wont be any most important repairs necessary for the next year, lurk till its paid off and supply it privately (you would get much more on the street than to a dealer beside that type of vehicle)
Another option if possible is to wages the vehicle off now and vend it privately. What you don't want to happen is for a major repair expense to crop up i.e. engine problem transmission replacement.
Try this site, it is very productive and good luck.

Not having a coup¨¦ payment is very exhilarating and frees your money for other things similar to savings and investing.
The small repairs you incur every couple of months are nothing compared to the hundreds of dollars you'd spend every month purchasing a topical car.
Learn to live with the small stuff and put a few hundred dollars into it once or twice a year and steal the $30K your saving by not buying a new Acura and put it to better use.
Its all up to you but I sure would approaching not to have a car sum for awhile too.

Answers: Keep it a while longer. The things you mentioned are minor and isn't a unadulterated indication of how the car is holding up. 100k isn't all that much these days. As far as other minor parts going bad they most likely will but paying $300 to replace read aloud a power steering pump is nothing compared to paying $300 a month just for a untried car.
This explains it even better:
