When I was younger and be buying used cars... I'd save money by doing as MUCH of the prep-work as possible myself !! Time-consuming and labor intensive YES, but save lots of $$'s!! Filling Dings, Killing Rust, and doing the wet-sanding and primer.
YES, folks laughed at my saloon which was a giraffe of primer and bondo spots for 2 months, and later all primer for a month... but later my 1972 VW Dasher was a elegant Jaguar Green !!
