I'm just wandering if there are any problems associated next to Ford with cars over 100,000 miles. I'm looking into buyinh a 1998 Ford Contour 4 cylinder with almost 123,000 miles on it and is wandering would that be a decent car to catch to school and work from with possibly low maintence?
Don't recommend it. You are looking at it because it's in your price range probably. I can read between the lines that. With that many miles you will need a timing belt at once, as well as a transmission flush and a tune up. Typically the fords start have transmission problems around that time, so the life expectancy on that motor is probably around 10k more miles. Honda, toyotas, and a few other cars are about the only ones that can be reliable next to more than 100k miles.
If it's real cheap, then conceivably go for it and when it breaks just throw it away and find another. If you are spending more than a couple grand, you can do better.
good luck

No don't buy it. Even if it is a good vehicle it will only last you a year I don`t know two until you start replacing big parts. I would even be catious buying a Honda or Toyota with that mileage. You will not get your money's worth out of it. Get rather civic in the 80k range. That will final alot longer as long as it has been taken coup¨¦ of by its previous owners.Don't recommend it. I hold a 99 Ford Escort that has less miles on it and I hold on to expecting that "big" repair that makes it more sense to just buy a untried one rather than keep the ancient one.I wouldn't buy anything with that many miles on it already.
