I am thinking about purchasing a 2000 Dodge Neon with 152,600 miles on it for just about $1900. It sounds good running and drives pretty good. Do you reckon that will be a good idea to purchase a coup¨¦ with such high miles or will the sports car just give out surrounded by a few thousand miles?
Very simple answer, NO.
Only if the seller can produce maintenance history showing that the oil has be changed regularly (every 5,000 miles at most)
If you cannot get these records, bear off the oil riddle cap, and shine a flash light down into the cylinder head, and look to see what color you see, if its black and sludge looking, run away. If it is a brown color it should be okay.
We had a dodge neon and it was a great vehicle kept it till over 200,000 then sold it still see the new owner driving it around.
go for it.
my neon is three years elder than that and has quite a bit more miles, and it's still great.
if you lift care of it, it should run well long-gone 200,000. NOO!! Neons have a number of reliability problems, the most famous self head gasket failures. The nouns conditioning evaporator proved to be prone to failure. Also commonly associated with Neons are problems near speed sensors, paint chipping (creating rust), excessive use of oil (especially if over 70,000 miles, poor window seal (causing you to freeze in the winter with annoying turn noise), battery problems, and door handles confidently broken.
