You can always find deal as a renter, just like anywhere else. Also, parts of LA enjoy rent control, so if you find a good deal your rent can merely be increased 4% each year.

I can't imagine wanting to move to L.A. and not living in town, somewhere on the West side or South Bay or Hollywood/Los Feliz/Silver Lake.
