Answers: Nope, not worth having, and yes, they charge.
Just practise pulling over and using the built within functions (such as 'road block ahead') when in difficulty, or my fave, the ''find alternative route'' picking.
I have found some great country roads around Nottingham this instrument, and whilst they may not always retrieve you time, they can be fun to drive and are informative regarding your surroundings.
